First Sunday, three to five
A membership for the people who want the herd in their month. Fifty dollars a month, and on the first Sunday of every month, from three to five in the afternoon, the ranch is open to members and the horses are out. Nobody rides, nobody needs to have been near a horse before, and you can cancel whenever you like.
A membership is a standing invitation rather than a booking: nothing to schedule, and the same Sunday every month.
What a Members Day is
An afternoon on the ground, with the herd
No riding, no experience needed
A Members Day is two hours at the ranch with the horses out and nothing on the schedule but them. There is no program to it: members spend the afternoon at the rail, in the shade, or alongside whichever of the herd comes over, because the horses decide that part, and they are unimpressed by how long anybody has been a member. It is not a session and it is not a class, but the same fifteen acres and the same four horses in a slower key, with room to slow down, pay attention, and see what the herd offers when nothing is asked of you.
The rules are a session’s rules. Closed-toe shoes, long pants and a hat with a brim; one of us is on the ground with you the whole time; and the waiver is signed when you arrive, before anybody walks in.
Fifty dollars a month
Billed monthly by card from the day you join. Cancel any time, and the month you have paid for stands.
The first Sunday
Of every month, at the ranch. If the weather or a fire call takes the day, the Sunday moves rather than being lost.
Three to five
In the afternoon. Arrive by three, and the afternoon is the herd's until five.
On the ground
With the horses, not on them. Nobody rides, and nobody needs to have been near a horse before.
What the horses guide us towards
Mirroring is the word for something horses do without being asked. A horse responds to the state a person is actually in rather than to what they say or intend, so the way it behaves near somebody becomes information about them. Arrive braced and holding it together, and the horse answers the bracing.
What makes it useful here is that the herd does not respond uniformly. Each of these four is tuned to something different, and what they show you arrives through their own temperament.

Who it is for
Two reasons to keep coming
Neither of them is a job title, and neither needs a reason beyond wanting to be around the horses more often than a booking allows.
You came for a session
People who came once, on their own or with the people they brought, and found on the drive home that they wanted to keep coming. A membership is the way back that does not need a reason or a booking: the same herd, the same ground, one Sunday a month.
You live near enough
People close enough to make an afternoon of it, who would like the herd in their month and have no particular thing to work on. That is a fine reason to come. The horses do not ask what brought you, and neither do we.
How it goes
From the button to the first Sunday
Joining settles the money and very little else. The rest is decided on the ground, with the herd, once you are here.
Become a member
The button takes you to Stripe's page, where the card is typed and the membership starts. Fifty dollars a month from that day, and you can cancel whenever you like.
The first Sunday
Come to the ranch by three. The waiver is signed when you arrive, and after that the afternoon is the herd's: two hours on the ground, until five.
Every month after
The first Sunday of each month is the standing date. If the canyon or the forecast moves it, we write to members with the Sunday it moves to.

Before you come
What to bring on a Members Day
Closed-toe shoes you do not mind getting dirty, long pants, and a hat with a brim, because there is very little shade in the paddock. Bring water.

Before youjoin
Do I have to come every month?
No. The membership holds the date for you, and whether you come is yours to decide month by month. A Sunday you miss is not carried over or refunded, because the afternoon happened and the herd was out for it, but the next first Sunday is yours as it always was.
Is a Members Day a session?
No, and the difference matters to us. A session is time the herd shapes around one person or the few people who came with them, with a facilitator reading what the horses guide us towards. A Members Day is open time with the herd and no work to do, and if something comes up in it that you want to look at properly, a session is the place for that and we will help you find one.
Do I need any experience with horses?
No. Most people who come here have never handled a horse, and nothing in the work assumes you have. The herd does not care what you know about them. They respond to how you carry yourself, which is a thing you already have with you.
Will I ride?
No. All of it happens on the ground, alongside the horses rather than on them. That is what makes the work legible: standing next to a twelve-hundred-pound animal, your posture and your breathing become information you can actually read.
Can I bring somebody?
A membership is for one person, and children are welcome alongside an adult who stays with them. If you would like to bring a friend, write to us first: how many people are in the paddock on an afternoon is something the herd has opinions about, and we would rather tell you plainly than guess.
What if the weather turns?
Then the Sunday moves. Heat, high wind, heavy rain, smoke, or a fire closure on the road in can all call an afternoon off, and when that happens we write to members with the Sunday it moves to. Nothing is charged for the move and nothing is refunded for it, because the month’s afternoon still happens.
How do I cancel?
Write to us at hello@equinetherapymalibu.com and we end it from our side, the same day. The month you have paid for stands until it ends, and nothing is charged after it. You can join again whenever you like.
